Current Mood: creative
I stumbled upon the book Instant Weddings, by Jennifer L. Shawne, and I have to highly recommend it to everyone here. It's geared toward those with 4 months or less to plan their wedding, but I found that the advice contained within it really applies to everyone across the board.

A few highlights:

In the first chapter she recommends that each member of the couple compile a seperate list of must haves, would like to haves, and absolutely do not want to haves, and that they then get together with their lists to figure out what are the truly important elements for their wedding.

In other chapters she recommends unique, often unthought of, places to get what's needed for the wedding.

A few of my favorite reception ideas she mentions are snow cones topped with vanilla vodka for a white/ winter themed wedding, and a picnic style reception, which we're now thinking of incorporating into our plans.

The book was published in 2004, and the list price is $14.95, but I found it at the Dollar Tree for a buck, so check there first. :)

Cross-posted like mad; sorry if you see this more than twice.

I still have no idea when the wedding will be, but I got some inspiration so I designed the invitations. I'd like some input on it, so please tell me if you notice anything I've missed.

Very crude mock-ups under hereCollapse )

Oct. 9th, 2007 @ 04:50 pm Rolled sandwich slices
Current Mood: productive
For our wedding reception we are DIYing 2 separate buffets.

One geared toward grownupsCollapse )

And one geared toward the kidsCollapse )

We decided to do a test run of the rolled sandwiches, and I thought I would post it in case anyone else would like to make them. For the sake of bandwith, I'll be concentrating on the pepperoni and mozzarella in this post.

Chock full of pictures!Collapse )

After making these we've decided that they are a bit too small to be worth the effort of making them as is for the reception, so if anyone has a good basic bread recipe that can be doubled may we please have it? Thank you! :)

Crossposted everywhere.

I found The Classical Music Pages and thought it might be appreciated here. It allows you to listen to snipets of music so you can better plan your program. It lists pieces by artist and by genre, so finding what you want is easy.

I found this on another community and thought I'd share it here. The music is absolutely beautiful, and I thought someone could use it for their ceremony or reception.

I just wanted to remind everybody about ABC Distributing. They have candle holders, disco ball, organza lamp, solar spotlight (for night weddings), lighted topiary, and lots more stuff.

They don't take credit cards to keep costs down, but do have other secure payment methods. Also, if you have a valid- non numbered (ie apartment or lot)- address you can order up to $100 worth of merchandise and they'll ship it to you and let you pay for it once you get it. I've ordered from this company before and I really like their stuff.

If you're still looking for favor ideas for kids, why not try Oriental Trading Company, particularly these craft sets? It might be nicer than just a toy, and could provide more entertainment in the long run. :)
